Is a handbag considered carry-on luggage?

Can you have a handbag in addition to your carry-on with Wizz Air?
Wizz Air follows very much the same logic as other low-cost carriers. The basic ticket price lets you take one free bag on board, which has to fit under the seat in front of you. It can be a handbag, a small backpack or a laptop bag, again the name doesn't matter, only the size and the fact that it's a single piece of baggage.
Wizz Air specifies the maximum dimensions for this bag (currently 40 × 30 × 20 cm). If the bag is bigger, or you're carrying two separate items (for example a handbag and an extra backpack), staff may consider this to exceed the limit and charge an extra fee at the gate. If you want to bring a larger cabin suitcase that goes into the overhead locker, you need to buy an additional service (most often a priority-type service, in line with Wizz Air's current rules). Only then are you entitled to:
- one bag under the seat (such as a handbag),
- and one cabin suitcase for the overhead locker.
Is a handbag considered carry-on luggage – LOT
With LOT the rules are more flexible for passengers than with budget airlines. On the standard fare you can bring two items on board:
- carry-on luggage (usually a small suitcase),
- a personal item, such as a handbag, a small backpack or a laptop bag.
Carry-on luggage with LOT has set limits, usually up to 55 × 40 × 23 cm and 8 kg. It goes into the overhead locker. A personal item, on the other hand, should be smaller and must fit under the seat in front of you; its weight is limited (up to 2 kg), and its dimensions must not get in the way of your legroom. So does a handbag count as carry-on luggage? No. In practice this means that the popular “small suitcase + handbag” combination is allowed with LOT without any extra charges, as long as both items fit within the limits set by the carrier.
It's worth remembering, however, that with LOT the limits depend on the fare and the travel class. That's why before departure it's always a good idea to check the details of your own booking rather than rely solely on the general rules.
